Starting tomorrow, it will be illegal to smoke in Wisconsin bars and restaurants.

Sunday Sound-off: Will you quit smoking?

Today, July 4, is Independence Day; the date on which we Americans celebrate our freedom and liberty.

Tomorrow, July 5, is the day Wisconsin's statewide smoking ban kicks in. Some are claiming a loss of freedom while others look forward to the opportunity to enjoy a smoke-free night out.

Supporters of the ban say that this will help smokers kick the habit but those on both sides have evidence to support their claims.

A lot of stories have been written on the ban, with a flood of Talkbacks pouring in from supporters and opponents.

This week's forum question, however, doesn't deal with the ban, itself, but instead, whether or not smokers plan to use the ban as an opportunity to try and quit.

So, sound off, smokers: do you have plans to try and put the butts out because of the smoking ban?

The only bad thing about the smoking ban is that it might make imbeciles live a little bit longer.

"I seriously intended to quit smoking until I felt the Nazi choke-hold." spoken like a person who takes no responsibility. "That's not the way to get people to quit." that was not the law's intention. but i guess ignorance is bliss, right truthbetold?

I will no longer be supporting the drinking establishments in Milwaukee which will be GREAT for my Health with the exception of the Indian Gaming Casinos where liberty still exists. I will buy cigarettes on the reservation and avoid contributing to taxes that do nothing to help the smokers quit. Can any of you brilliant commentators tell me where the cig tax goes? My sympathies to the "Ma & Pa" bar owners who live on the premises and will now risk thier livelihood. Maybe you can get another job. Wait! There are none. I never smoked in restaurants and have always been a considerate smoker. The small bars I frequented were working class people trying to releive some stress. You weren't there because places I frequent do not let knuckleheads like you in the door. One last thing, an example of health consideration should go out to the Potawatomi Tribe. On their reservation, they have a huge health facility and welcome the Entire community, not just tribal members. Not bad for people who allow smoking in their casinos. I seriously intended to quit smoking until I felt the Nazi choke-hold. That's not the way to get people to quit. It would be like having a law that ignorant people couldnt post comments. you would find a way to post them.

I think these "supporters" need to stop running people's life! I mean how would they feel if I ran thier lifes? Smoking is by choice, not by force!
