Here we are, friends. It's Nov. 2, and we all know what we have to do. If you haven't made it to the polls yet, do so. But make sure you don't leave without your "I Voted" sticker. Today, it not only means you've tossed your two cents into the piggy bank, but it also works as your ticket to some post-voting entertainment.
For those of you who get the job done early, the Milwaukee Art Museum invites you to spend the day checking out its feature exhibition, "Masterpieces of American Art, 1770-1920," and its politically charged "Artists Interrogate: Politics and War" exhibit. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., anyone sporting the "I Voted" sticker gets in the museum and the exhibits for free.
If you're looking for some Election Day excitement tonight, you've got a few options.
The Cactus Club is proudly hosting its "Election Night Gala." The local lineup features The Mistreaters, The Panic, Def Harmonic and The Danger. Music kicks off at 9 p.m., and of course, it's free, if you've voted.
Onopa Brewing Company is prepared to bring the noise tonight with headliners The Mystery Girls. Setting the stage for the blues-infused garage rockers are the Night Terrors, The Black Hats, the Silver Suns and Betsy Borst. This, too, starts at 9 p.m., and remember; bring that sticker!
Mad Planet's "I Voted" party promises to be perfectly eclectic in every way. They've got Old Man Malcolm tearing up the turntables, Call Me Lightning raising the rock level, and Wooden Robot mellowing it back down. While you're there, if you see a guy in a Rumsfeld mask drumming while a Cheney look-a-like plays guitar to a bunch of re-vamped Bush speeches, stick around. They call themselves The Paragraphs, and if you can stand to look at their masked faces for a whole set, you are in for an interesting performance. Yes, you guessed it -- the shows begin at 9 p.m. and it's free for everyone who has voted and can prove it.
The Velvet Room's Election Night Party has red, white and blue martinis for five bucks and free apps with that "I Voted" sticker. OMC is sponsoring it too, so pick up a free OMC sticker while you are there.
So get out there, rock your vote, and then enjoy some of Milwaukee's finest doing a little rocking of their own.
