Saveur, one of the country's most respected gastronomy magazines, not only dug into Milwaukee's Friday fish fry tradition, but put the story on the cover of its September 2006 issue.
Milwaukee native -- and ex-pat -- Daphne Beal returned home to explore the city's best fish fries in the 10-page spread, which includes photos and details and recipes from County Clare, Hotel Metro, Serb Hall, Kegel's Inn, Wegner's St. Martin's Inn, Lakefront Brewery, Turner Hall and The Pfister.
Finally, the rest of America knows what really fuels Milwaukee in the post-Schlitz, post-Pabst, post-Blatz era: fried fish, potato pancakes and cole slaw!
