Borrego's Mexican restaurant, 223 N. Water St. -- the only Mexican eatery in the Third Ward -- closed its doors on Saturday, May 28 but will be replaced by the Riverwalk Bistro, which was slated to open Thursday, June 2.
Riverwalk Bistro is owned by the Zanotti Family (Club Havana) who worked with Rick Schmidt, the man (with his brother RC) behind a number of local eateries, including Water Street Brewery and Brew City Bar-B-Q, to re-open the restaurant.
Borrego's, run by the Borrego family, which ran the original Rudy's restaurant in Walker's Point, opened in February 2004.
Riverwalk Bistro's phone number is (414) 272-4200.

LJ said: Absolutely wonderful! My friend and I enjoyed our dinner and drinks at Riverwalk. The food and staff were amazing. It was not busy at all. I think there were about ten people total the whole night we were there. It's too bad...if the news about how great this place is gets around, it'll be hard to get a table!

the one who knows said: Everyone please listen. Schmidt does NOT own River Walk Bistro. The Zanotti's do and are excellent business owners. River Walk Bistro is THE place to go for some of the best service, atmosphere, menu and food presentation of it's time in this city. You're missing out on one of the best, if you don't try it.

Tabitha said: Re: Bistro. I think its like...using the word "grill" back in the 60's and 70's. Bisto makes 'um sound sofisticated, in touch with the olive oil that replaced the butter and batter fried things. Cafe and Deli are the other overused one's. (Remember the DELI at GIMBELS?).

newcomer said: What's up with all of the 'bistro' restaurants lately? Does that name make it more attractive....I guess friends and I will refer to this place as Riverwalk and forget the Bistro since we know of at least four other restaurants with that name.....for a rather recently opened place it got some rave reviews in the newspaper section on notable newcomers/ best patios. Good luck to you with Riverwalk.
