Brady Street's popular Nomad World Pub, 1401 E. Brady St., lavishly celebrates its 10th anniversary next month featuring 26 live performances, a two-day block party, a toga party, live recording sessions and more.
The celebration begins with a Death to Caesar toga party beginning at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15. Music is provided by local rising stars, New Sense. Nomad owner Mike Eitel says partygoers will be treated to a Web simulcast of an identical toga party held at the new Minneapolis Nomad, marking its grand opening.
And the mid-week fun continues with the March 16 and 17 block party. There will be free food, an outdoor Guinness Beer Garden and a heated tent with an entertainment stage. Paul Cebar and the Milwaukeeans with special guest Willy Porter perform at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
The St. Patrick's Day shindig opens at 10 a.m. with Irish acoustic acts, Irish brogue and red hair contests, Reilly, bagpipers, Eidir, The Trinity Irish Dancers and McTavish. U2Zoo, a U2 cover band, finishes off the night with an 8 p.m. performance.
Live recording sessions featuring the best of local music will take place on selected weeknights throughout the month. The final product will be a "Live at the Nomad, Vol. 3" CD. Proceeds from the disc will be donated to charity.
Also on the list of activities is the 10th annual Nomad photo contest. The deadline has been extended to March 15. Categories include Most Nomadic, Most Exotic, Most Erotic and Best Use of a Nomad Logo. All photos must be submitted in 8-by-10-inch format. Prizes include travel vouchers and Nomad memorabilia.
Bands scheduled to play for the month-long commemoration include De La Buena, The Uptown Savages, The Mighty Lumberhorn, 5 Card Studs, On a Sun, Freshwater Collins, Codebreaker, The Probers, Mississippi Cactus, Kiss Me I'm Sick, the 357 String Band and many more.
A limited edition "hall pass" -- now on sale for $10 -- offers guaranteed admission to all events, no cover charges and special deals. The Nomad Web site is nomadworldpub.com. Call the Nomad World Pub at (414) 224-8111.
