Riverwest-based publication Nerve House announced yesterday that the second issue will be based on the theme "home and/or identity." Editors Denise Dee and Sura Faraj encourage Milwaukeeans to submit poems, essays, black and white visuals and rants of all kinds by Aug. 7.
Nerve House is a free quarterly dedicated to art and politics. The first issue was published last month and is available at cafes and shops in the Milwaukee area. It featured work from writers and artists around the world.
Here are the specifics:
Poetry: Submit no more than three poems of a maximum length 350 words per poem. Note: Nerve prefers shorter poems.
Essays/rants: 600-800 words.
Art: Nerve is a black-and-white newsprint so all artwork MUST be sent in black and white. If it's accepted they will ask you for a hard copy and/or high-res digital file.
Please send a 40-word bio including contact info.
Send submissions to nervehouse@yahoo.com.

Zed Carrs said: Since the 2nd publication in question is free, and the writer in question is not getting compensated, I don't think it's a conflict of interest. Also, OMC does a great job of promoting various art and cultural events and publications across Milwaukee. It's entirely possible that people living in different parts of the city might not have seen Nerve House or have known of it's existence based on lack of geographic visibility.

curious said: Is it a conflict of interest if the writer here is also a contributor to the publication she is promoting? What about when OnMilwaukee publishes promotional items written by this writer about other projects in which she is involved?
