Have you ever considered mentoring a student? If so, Milwaukee Mentors invites you to a Brewers game so you can witness the miracle of mentoring firsthand.
The event takes place at Miller Park on Tues., Sept. 23 with a tailgating party at 5:30 p.m. followed by the Brewers game at 7:05 p.m. against the St. Louis Cardinals. Food, soda and tickets to the game will be provided.
Mentors and their students, as well as anyone considering becoming a mentor, are encouraged to attend.
Last year, Milwaukee Mentors referred 145 volunteers to various city programs, and hopes to recruit at least 160 mentors this year, according to Program Director Sarah Frank.
Mentors are asked to commit to one or two hours a week for a minimum of one year. "Milwaukee Mentors work with potential mentors to place them in a volunteer opportunity that suits their time availability and interests," says Molly Turner, communications coordinator for YMCA mentoring programs.
"Mentoring does work! (Kids with mentors have) improved attitude towards parents, school and life," says Frank.
