Roz Thurner, owner of Mocais Café in Chase Tower (formerly Bank One Plaza), realized the lack of coffee shop options in the Cathedral Square area and did something about it. On May 1, M Café opened as a coffee kiosk in Eden’s floral shop, 789 N. Jefferson St.
“The only thing missing from Cathedral Square was coffee, and we’re here to fill that need with whole bean coffee, ground fresh for every pot,” states Thurner.
M Café will feature specialty drinks, espresso and coffees, along with fresh salads and sandwiches made daily.
Thurner opened Mocais in 2003, bringing an upscale Internet café to Milwaukee. Enhancing M Café’s fresh cuisine, Mocais offers full dining service with seating for 150, a cocktail bar and catering.
M Café will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. with extended hours for Cathedral Square events including Jazz in the Park.

Derrick said: FYI for whomever said we need an alterra in downtown proper there is! It's in the US bank building I believe it's the same concept as the one's at mayfair mall and bashore but hey it's there. We have too many coffee shops in this city let's get some entertainment maybe a downtown movie theater and a game works!

dan said: hank, yes, Mocha's is open late, but most of the people downtown live east of Van Buren, so a late night coffee shop over here would do quite well. whereas mocha's is a 15-20 minute walk, cathedral square is a 5-10 minute walk for most of those people. it would be nice to have something open late in the neighborhood that isn't a bar.

lex said: hi Hank. You're right, Mocha's is open until about 2 a.m., but it sounds like you've never been there in the "wee hours." It is so packed with night oowls and students, sometimes you can't get a table. The Ambassador' cafe decco is open until 10 pm (free wifi) as well as the area starbux, but another late nite option would be great.
