Call out the architecture police, the building theft squad!!
Looking at the occasional magazine that arrives a few times each year with the one newspaper I subscribe to, I was shocked to see -- in an ad for the new BMW Series 5 autos -- that a portion of the Milwaukee Art Museum has been stolen.
I guess I haven't driven past it recently and therefore didn't realize it was even gone!
How the clever thieves managed to dismantle the building and remove it to the shore of another lake, one much smaller and with mountains on the opposite side, is beyond me. I would think that moving such a structure would be a gargantuan task.
UPDATE: I just drove down to the lakefront and I see that our Santiago Calatrava-designed addition to the Milwaukee Art Museum is still there!
That can only mean one thing: some clever architecture bootlegger has created a life-size copy of the structure in another location.
(Or, maybe someone is just really good at manipulating photos in Photoshop. But that seems unlikely.)

I know this is supposed to be tongue-in-cheek. Not exactly working for me though.

I'd be really curious if the MAM actually signed a property release. Seems odd that they would given the iconic nature of the building.

You'd have thought they'd be advertising the Mini to go with that tiny Calatrava.

Jan. 24, 2012 Although Glen Campbell reportedly played "Rhinestone Cowboy" at The Pabst on Saturday, I wasn't able to get video of it. Instead, I bid a fond adieu to the Rhinestone Cowboy, as he rides off into the sunset, with this clip of him performing "I Can't Stop Loving You." |
