Every four years, on Feb. 29, I think about people who have a birthday on "leap day." (Wikipedia tells me you people are called "leaplings.") I do not know anyone who has this birth date, but if you do, perhaps you can answer my burning questions.
What day do you celebrate your birthday during non-leap years? Feb. 28 or March 1? Do you feel cheated in any way, since your actual birthday only rolls around every four years?
Inquiring minds -- at least this one -- want to know!

I wanted to p[ost to this on the 29th, but it took forever to get the IT people for this site to approve my subsc. People make such a big deal out if this, but its just another day. Yes, it only comes every 4 yrs so we get screwed out of a golden b-day, and maybe some other bennys from places. Those of who R leapits, celebrate the other 3 yrs on the 28th, because we were not born in march!! We just make up fir it in the 4th yr. :-)

My wife's sister is a "leapling". I guess when she turned 21 - she'd been on this earth for 21 years - she tried going out on 2/28 (in a non-leap year), and they turned her away. She had to wait until 3/1. Not sure when she celebrates normally, but will be a big party this year.

Crazy, I think your philosophy is a bit selfish. Back to the point - I belive 3/1 is the date they acknowledge their birthday - even if you don't end up celebrating on your actual birthday, you have to admit you think of it that day as your day.

I had a middle school teacher who was very eccentric and a lot of fun, but he always told us he was 12 going on 13, because his birthday was on the 29th of February, which only happened once every four years. He was a really fun person.

Call me crazy, but I celebrate my "birthday time" twice a day (September 27th = 9:27), morning and evening. Yep, you heard me right! Whenever I see the clock stuck on that particular time, I do a little jig and say, "It's my birthday time, it's my birthday time!" Childish, yes, but equally unique and awesome if you ask me! I've also contemplated celebrating monthly birthdays (on the 27th of each month), leading up to one big birthday celebration. Think about it: gathering friends (friends you might not otherwise get a chance to see) once a month for some drinking and/or debauchery? How can that be wrong? Call me crazy, but these things simply fall in line with the whole "celebrate people while they're here" philosophy. Celebrate the time while you've got it. That's what I say! Leap Day included!
