The Port of Milwaukee will load a huge P&H electric mining shovel today for export to St. Petersburg, Russia on the Palessa, a vessel owned by the Danish shipping company J. Poulsen Shipping.
The shovel, P&H's 2800XPB, weighs 2,242,700 pounds and is nearly 61 feet high, 130 feet long and 43 feet wide. It will use a 44-cubic-yard dipper to load material into 220-metric-ton capacity haul trucks.
This export shipment is the third of its kind to cross the Port's Heavy Lift Dock this year. According to the Port of Milwaukee, Wisconsin manufactured exports have increased 10 percent in 2004.
