There's never a shortage of new people, events, decisions and ideas in Milwaukee, some moving the city forward and some holding it back. In this subjective and light-hearted article, we take Milwaukee's temperature for the end of May 2008.

Sizzling:

Brewers' Ryan Braun -- With a $45 million contract, he's got more security than anyone in the organization but Attanasio.
Bradford Beach comeback -- Thank you, Hi-Hat Group. Memorial Day weekend -- You never thought the warm weather was coming, did you?

Hot:
Packers' Aaron Rodgers -- His first practices as "The Man."
Potawatomi expansion -- Wild Earth opens in July.
Garden centers -- Everyone's building a rain garden. Don't even bother looking for a parking spot on Saturday morning.
Foo Fighters at Harley bash -- Beats most of the acts Summerfest booked.
Film in Wisconsin -- Depp is just the start of celebrity appearances around here.

Warm:
Marcus Theater in Park East
-- Downtown movies!
Sigg water bottles -- When in doubt, go green.
Summer festival circuit -- Bring on the cover bands.
American Idol winner -- Go David.

Cool:
Marquette bars -- Business usually drops when finals end.
Summerfest lineup -- Except the OnMilwaukee.com sponsored Potawatomi stage, of course.

Cold:
Indoor music venues -- Festival season is a buzz-kill.
Plastic water bottles -- Watch out for that BPA in your Nalgene!
Indoor smoking -- There's no official ban, but more and more bars are snuffing cigs.

Sub-zero:
Body Worlds -- Dies June 1.
Single-use plastic bags -- Whole Foods banned them. Who is next?
Gas prices -- Maybe Bike to Work Week should be extended...
