For some, it takes a big turkey and television football to generate thankfulness, but for the folks behind gratefulness.org, the celebration of thanks lasts all year long.
Gratefulness.org is a "network for grateful living (that) facilitates community interaction by providing a set of practices and tools for cultivating gratefulness." Basically, the site features articles about people doing things to attempt to make the world a better place. For example, the top article is about scientists who believe that ultraviolet light may make cancer-fighting drugs more effective.
The site also offers the option to light a cyber candle, receive a positive word of the day, send a grateful e-card, a suggested list of "grateful" books, poetry and haiku, and practices or meditations to help incorporate grateful living. There are more than a dozen practices with titles like "How Do Animals Teach Gratefulness?" and "Grief and Gratefulness."
Gratefulness.org is an interesting concept, albeit a little corny. However, it's never a bad idea to focus on the good things rather then the stuff that sucks, so I'll bookmark gratefulness.org for my less cynical days. By the way, anyone who's not a fan of the Grateful Dead will be happy to know there's not a single mention of Jerry Garcia anywhere on the site.
