Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and Spirit of Milwaukee president Dean Amhaus, will unveil the new Milwaukee Gateway Signage Program Tuesday, May 9 at 10:30 a.m. in the City Hall rotunda.
The new signs featuring the Milwaukee Art Museum's Santiago Calatrava-designed Burke Brise Soleil, will soon grace streets that serve as key entry points into the city. Area companies will sponsor the new signage.
"We are extremely pleased that the entire community has strongly adopted the new Milwaukee logo as their own," said Amhaus.
"The support provided by the charter sponsors in expanding the visibility of the logo demonstrates their pride in calling Milwaukee home."
Today, many of the gateways into Milwaukee greet visitors with simple population signs or standard signs that read "NO PARKING 2 a.m.-6 a.m."
"Currently we welcome the public into our city with signs that say 'No Parking' and I think we can do better. By finding new and creative sponsorships that strengthen our community and build on the commitment of our corporate citizens, we are able to bring this amazing street architecture to our neighborhoods and raise money for the maintenance of our boulevards without adding a further burden to the taxpayer. This is a public-private partnership that truly takes advantage of the assets of the City of Milwaukee," said Mayor Tom Barrett.
