Or maybe some baklava. Or tiramisu. From Palomino. Actually I'd take an Oreo Blizzard. Even a McDonalds apple pie (or 2).

If you think Bay View has it dialed in now, just wait until Forward Bay View picks up momentum in 2005. The new not-for-profit organization plans to improve both the business districts and daily life of residents.

According to Forward Bay View president Timothy Richter, the group's goals include promoting business development, including Bay View's voice in city hall, improving facades and maintaining the character of its architecture, and becoming more pedestrian-friendly so residents have the majority of their business and leisure interests met.

"Residents in Bay View should have little reason to travel beyond the neighborhood to have most needs met," says Richter, 28. "Improved dining, shopping, entertainment, aesthetics and recreation will all advance the general welfare of Bay View."

Specifically, the group will work to develop wider sidewalks in business districts and focus on public areas through grant funds. They plan to work with the city and promote the area to attract more businesses and residents.

"The first goal for FBV is to develop a strong membership base and create a network of talent that will carry out the mission of the association," says Richter.

Starting in January, Forward Bay View will accept applications from business owners, property owners, residents, politicians, organizations and individuals who have an interest in the betterment of "The View."

"There have been many changes in that time and there are many things that have not changed," says Steven Salfer, the executive director of the organization and a Bay View resident for more than 25 years. "I think it's important to know what needs to be changed, improved or just polished up and appreciated."
