Ah, little geese are so cute!
Everyday, it seems, there are more and more residents, kids, strollers and businesses Downtown. Another growth sector, if you will, are the Canada geese. They are everywhere. And while some see them as a hindrance, two bridge dwelling birds have brought new life and "language" to Downtown, becoming the new Gertie the Ducks.
Just this weekend, the long-time Wells St. goose hatched her eggs. Several young goslings sat and "chirped" in the planter on the Wells St. Bridge as two male geese protected their "children" with hissing, flapping and spitting. With the beautiful weather and increased foot traffic, the birds were on display for the passers-by.
A second "mother goose to be" is perched on the Michigan Street Bridge, just west of Water Street. Her nest is roped off with police tape, so she sat in peace all weekend long. I'd guess she's close to giving birth.
Take a walk on the Riverwalk this week and check out the new life being hatched right in our Downtown.

What I find funny about Canadian geese, I saw some hanging out with about 20 different other species of bird in Hyde Park when I went to London in March.

Maybe the appropriate song to accompany this story would be "Blame Canada" from South Park The Movie.
