The Milwaukee Police Department unveils its plan for policing District 4, the largest geographical police district in the city, at a community meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at Direct Supply, 6663 N. Industrial Rd.
Mayor Tom Barrett, Milwaukee Police Chief Edward A. Flynn, District 4 Captain Eric Moore and other elected officials are to attend the meeting, which is open to the public.
The District 4 neighborhood policing plan will focus on crime reduction within 12 multi-unit housing areas located within 10 separate neighborhoods that have been problematic for citizens and law enforcement for an extended period of time. The plan seeks to reduce the crime, fear and disorder in these neighborhoods.
The target areas for this plan includes the following neighborhoods: Maple Tree; Valhalla; Silver Spring Housing Development; Woodlands; Fairfield / Berryland Housing Development; Menomonee River Hills; Calumet Farms / Mariner's Pointe; Town & Country Manor; Lincoln Park; and Old Milwaukee North neighborhoods.
Ongoing analysis by District 4 personnel has identified one or more of the following problems in the rental housing clusters located in the referenced neighborhoods: robbery, burglary, drug activity, intimidation, theft and signs of disorder, including building code violations, graffiti and excessive trash.
Officers will conduct frequent, sizable, and aggressive park and walk patrols while coordinating their efforts with block watches, area residents and building owners.
