The long-vacant space at 2625 N. Downer Ave., probably best known for its years as home to The Coffee Trader and Henry’s, is being sold. The current owners are in the process of signing a contract with prospective buyers The Lighthouse Development Company.
Daniel Katz, along with John Crichton and Thomas Hauck, purchased the building after Coffee Trader closed in 1998.
Lighthouse Development is exploring retail and restaurant options to fill the space, which has been entirely vacant since the Bartolotta Restaurant Group’s second Pizzeria Piccola location closed its doors in April 2004.
Following the demise of the pizzeria, Bartolotta announced plans to open another Ristorante Bartolotta in the same space. According to Lighthouse Development, Joe Bartolotta continues to move forward with the restaurant plans.
Hopes run high among Downer Avenue merchants and shoppers that this prominent and long-dormant space will come alive once again.

me said: I miss the Coffee Trader. Yes, the food was overrated and the wait staff was snobby but I have found memories of going there in the 80's. It was one of the first coffee houses and we all felt so cool going there. Did anyone ever get their palms read there? What a hoot!

Bay Viewer said: I just want to see something else GOOD there that gives me a reason to start going BACK there (to Downer Avenue). With 5 other Sendiks, that is not the only draw there anymore. One or two restaurants, yes, I love them. But I have to admit nothing "special" or elite gets my attention to make me stop there as often as I used too. I miss the feeling of crowds walking the street like I remember in the 70's and 80's that made it user friendly. Where did all the people go, especially after dark?
