Mayor Tom Barrett andCommon Council President Willie Hines Jr., who is also chair of the city's Housing Authority, officially open Cherry Court, Milwaukee's second green public housing facility, Thursday, at 11:15 a.m. at 1525 N. 24th St.
The mid-rise residential building with 120 one-bedroom unites for the elderly and disabled replaces an eight-story building at the site. The building boasts a 20,000 sq. ft. green roof and other design features that help conserve energy and natural resources, including, among others, low-volume toilets, bamboo and recycled rubber floors, light harvesters, recyclable concrete masonry.
