Bucketworks, 1319 N. Martin Luther King Dr., will move from its present location to a new place by Sept. 1. The current building is for sale and Bucketworks' executive director James Carlson says the non-profit organization needs more space anyway.
The big question, at this point, is where Bucketworks will go.
"We need our community to help us plot our new home in Milwaukee," says Carlson.
Ideally, Carlson says the group would like to find a facility that's between 10,000 and 30,000 square feet, and on the first floor of a large building. He would also like to stay in the Harambee/Riverwest/Bronzeville neighborhood.
Currently, Bucketworks -- often described as a "health and fitness club for the brain"-- has 700 members and 28 companies. It is also home to the Quasi-Café.
This summer, Bucketworks will offer three inner city youth camps. Carlson says moving to a larger facility will allow the organization to reach out to larger groups of young people.
"Since kids can't go to Mayfair anymore, they should come to Bucketworks and make their clothes instead," says Carlson.
Carlson says he is committed to Bucketworks, but may hire another executive director so he can focus on the job of creative director.
"Even though we're moving, it's a step forward," says Carlson.
