New years bring new ideas. Hopefully.
So, what is your big, new idea for our wonderful city? I want to know it, and I'm asking you to share.
My suggestion? Take some time out of your regular routine and find some inspiration.
What do you want in Milwaukee? What do you expect from our city? What can you do in 2009 to help move Milwaukee forward?
There are big ideas left, and Lord knows that Milwaukee could use some. But what are they?
Come on people, it's time to get off the sidelines and share your big ideas for Milwaukee.
This link at ted.com might help to get those creative juices flowing.
Use the talkback feature to share your ideas for Milwaukee. I'll share mine in the coming weeks.

Completely scrap MPS and start over. The sad state of MPS is one of the primary reasons for the decline of so many neighborhoods in Milwaukee. Its an impediment to attracting residents and businesses to the City.

I am hoping for a non-profit land trust to begin buying the land that in the central city to make housing more affordable. I would love to see an expansion of Growing Power into a huge urban farm to provide food and employment. The restructuring of MPS and MTEA. Dream Big!

jjrakman, Great ideas but I hate to burst your bubble, that concept exists in Louisville, Daytona, Kansas City, Toronto, and even Hollywood, Fla. They are the Live concepts that are exactly like a Mall food court or the Shops of Grand Ave with Lucky Strikes, Howl at the Moons, Lounges, Makers Mark bars, etc. I do think that the Grand ave could benefit from this, I would just worry about what kind of issues would pop up. My vote, another large department store chain such as Dillards or Nordstrom anchoring the Grand Ave would be great, and adding some higher end stores to start bringing people in from Bayshore and Brookfield square to show them that Downtown isnt like how it was 5-10 years ago.

Turn the Hoan Bridge into a sight seeing destination. Build a marsupial bridge underneath to handle bike and pedistrian traffic, light the whole bridge up like they do in NYC, and somehow blow the smell of the sewage treatment plant somewhere else. Or can the treatment plant be moved all together? Hey, you said big idea...
