The next time you pick someone up at the airport, do your guest (and me) a favor -- don't take I-94, take 794 and the Hoan Bridge into Downtown. This, of course, assumes that your destination is Downtown, and truly applies for us Downtown neighborhood dwellers and business people.
The reasoning here is simple. The views, landmarks and general aesthetics of this drive are far more appealing than the boring nature of the I-94 drive into Downtown.
If you believe in the "never have a second chance to make a first impression" adage, you'll jump on this tip for your next airport pick up. Milwaukee looks amazing from this view and this drive home presents our community in a wonderful light.
Here's the rundown. The next time you drive to Downtown from Mitchell International take Howell to Layton and then get on 794 North. 794, of course, takes you over the Hoan Bridge and into the heart of the city. The views are breathtaking. You'll see the Milwaukee Art Museum, Discovery World, Summerfest, Lake Michigan, countless cranes that scream "Milwaukee is growing," Miller Park to your left and several other landmarks, too. It's a great drive, especially when the sun is shining.
So, that's my Milwaukee tip of the day. Try it and let me know what you think. And thanks to Dean Amhaus and Gary Petersen for the reminders.
