The Brakes

The Brakes launch a nationwide U.S. tour in May to support their debut full-length album, Tale Of Two Cities, on the revered indie label HYENA Records. The tour is part of a co-bill, which also features Los Angeles rock band, Carney.

The Brakes, a Philadelphia-based band in their early twenties, are captured at an idyllic time in their evolution on Tale Of Two Cities (released nationally May 6). The collection was recorded during a month-long, dual-city residency in New York City and Philadelphia. Every Tuesday the band would head up the New Jersey Turnpike to set up shop at The Knitting Factory in Manhattan, while getting cozy with hometown fans every Thursday at MilkBoy in Philly. Each of the sold out shows were tracked and the best performances from both cities were selected for the album.

As The Brakes transition between an intimate neighborhood listening room and a renowned big city rock club, they're clearly electrified by the music they're creating. They seamlessly intertwine infectious indie-pop, crunchy California guitar rock and starry-eyed British psychedelia. On standout versions of songs like "Big Money," "Supermarket," and "Cigarette In The Rain," the young rock band distinguishes themselves with equal parts of razor sharp songwriting and searing musicianship. The first single, "Into The Ground," which is being offered as a free mp3, has already been downloaded over 8,000 times in the first few weeks of release.
