The Nomad's "Prix Fix" is just one of the ways bartenders encourage a taste of whiskey. |

Get ready to honor Jack Daniels, Jim Beam and Mr. Jameson for 30 days.
Believe it or not, September is National Whiskey Month (along with national preparedness month, national sewing month and national chicken month). We're focusing on the whiskey side of nightlife here and so it's time to look at the drinks and bars who -- day in and day out, despite national monthly appreciation -- appreciate the world of whiskey.
As the OnMilwaukee.com bartender Olympics earlier this year proved, a straight shot of Jameson is often the bartender's drink of choice. Straight and to the point, the Jameson shot has flown off the shelves with regularity at bars like The Nomad, the Up and Under, the Irish Pub and the BBC.
This summer, Milwaukee welcomed an establishment built to honor this classic liquor's name. The Whiskey Bar, 788 N. Jackson St., opened earlier this month, embodying the classic side of whiskey -- dark, trendy and pushing for a good time.
Packed last Friday night, The Whiskey Bar lights a heat lamp heavy patio or offers a circular indoor bar and while they may encourage you dabble in a variety of whiskeys, they certainly don't force it.
The Nomad may very well be the bar known city-wide for its straight whiskey special called the "Prix Fix." Serving the ultimate prix fixe, Nomad bartenders pony up a can of Pabst, a shot of Jameson and a cigarette for just $5.
But you can't forget the longstanding Irish tradition running through the heart of whiskey. Whether made in Kentucky or the Emerald Isle, there's a certain appeal for ancestral custom wrapped up in ordering a glass of whiskey.

from the nomad: we DO NOT sell individual cigarettes at the nomad.. we give one away for free if the purchaser chooses to have a cigarette with their shot n' beer combo. (more of a friendly gesture really)
