Cafe Lulu
Part bar, part restaurant, Bay View's Cafe Lulu is as a great a place to stop for a drink as it is for a sandwich, salad or slice of pie. Lulu spans two storefronts on the corner of Kinnickinnic Avenue and Howell Avenue -- one part cafe / diner and the other bar.
Menu: The drink menu is a typical combination of liqour, beer and wine. Find local and regional beers on tap as well as a large selection of bottles. Don't miss the great food menu as well-- better selection and better taste than your typical bar grub.
Price: This is a neighborhood joint and prices reflect it. Beers are standard $4 or $5 and cocktails run between $4 and $6.
When to go: Happy hour specials ($1 off rail drinks, tap beers and wine) run weekdays from 4 to 7 p.m.
Dress: Casual.
Don't miss: Don't miss "Two Wheel Tuesdays" with motorcycle racing on the big screen.
And every Wednesday, Lulu treats wine drinkers to "Wino Wednesdays." Get $10 off bottles of wine after 5 p.m.
Parking: There's a small lot just south of the building, otherwise metered street parking is available.
2261 S. Howell Ave.

I love LULU, but have to admit that I'd like to see them change up the menu slightly and include actual dinner entrees as opposed to sandwiches. Like say, a grilled chicken breast and side or something. I go there a lot though, so perhaps I'm just in need of a break.

I've been to Lulu three or four times over the years, and it just always seems like the food should be a little bit better than it is. I like the place and the vibe is great, but the food is kind of like the food at Centraal--it all sounds appealing, but the final product is almost always just a slight disappointment. I'll keep going back, but only for drinks.
