"Bar Month" at
OnMilwaukee.com is back for another round! The whole month of February,
we're serving up intoxicatingly fun bars and club articles -- including
guides, unique features, drink recipes and more. Grab a designated
driver and dive in!
Maybe it was the $1 cans of PBR and Tecate that brought in a good crowd to the Palomino last night. But I'm guessing it was mostly the free bingo.
I didn't know about this weekly event until my friend, Bill, recommended I drop by. Bill's a bartender at the Palomino, 2491 S. Superior St., and his duty on Monday was to spin the bingo ball container and call the numbers. The witty commentary, apparently, was added for free.
I was surprised just how many people filled the bar for a Monday night, and most were actively or passively playing bingo. Some patrons casually filled out their cards as they dined and drank. Other customers got totally into the action, hooting and hollering over the normal din of activity at the 'Mino.
Bill awarded prizes of beer, Pabst tube socks, gift cards and more during the evening's five rounds of action. The grand prize is a sweet Ford F-150 classic pick-up parked outside the bar, and the weekly winners automatically enter the raffle to take it home.
In my two hours of bingo action, I didn't win, but I came close. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've never won a single bingo game in my life, on any level. But the girl on the barstool next to me at the bar did win a pair of socks ... and that gives me hope.
I'm definitely coming back to win that sweet truck.

Are the numbers shown visually too? Or just yelled out verbally over the din?
