What is a blog? For us it is a short blurb that we write when the mood strikes us. It can be first person, funny or informative. In short, a blog is whatever we want it to be. Published Feb. 12, 2008 at 6:12 p.m.

"Bar Month" at OnMilwaukee.com is back for another round! The whole month of February, we're serving up intoxicatingly fun bars and club articles -- including guides, bartender profiles, drink recipes and even a little Brew City bar history. Cheers!

I'd heard a rumor that Palm Tavern, 2989 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., was planning on going completely smoke-free starting March 16, the day after St. Patrick's Day (which will be celebrated in Ireland on March 15 this year to avoid a conflict with Holy Monday).

The one last "hurrah" made sense to me, but I just called to confirm and learned that owners Bruno Johnson and Adrian Pierluissi have pushed up the snuff date to Tuesday, March 4.

As the date nears, I'll add to add Palm Tavern to this list of seven other Milwaukee-area bars that are either completely or partially (one floor, or on certain days of the week) smoke-free.

I'll keep the list updated as I hear of others, as well.

Actually, they do have the right to whine and bicker, it's called the First Amendment. There is no amendment, however, giving smokers the right to harm others with their smoke. This whole argument is a mute point anyway. Anti-smoking laws are a fact of life in the 21st century. Sooner or later, Wisconsin and everywhere else will be smoke free.

If you don't want your body damaged, go to a place w/o smoking. Smokers choose to smoke, and Z Boy chooses to go to places where smokers are and whine about it. I wouldn't work or patronize a place that supported something I don't agree with, Zboy, do the same. Can we ban blow-hards and paternalistic nannies from leaving the Eastside so we all can avoid the headaches they cause? Seriously, their holier-than-though attitude is ruininig my health. They have no right to whine, bicker and ruin my day.

Smokers have the right to damage THEIR bodies however they see fit. The problem is when their addiction damages OTHER peoples bodies. I am sick and tired of smokers using every lame excuse they can think of to justify smoking in bars. Smoke all you want, but when I breath your second hand smoke, you're infringing on my right to breath clean air!

Hckyboy00: When I'm at a bar or at the counter at George Webb's, a person's second-hand smoke is infiltrating my lungs and covering me -- my clothes, my skin, my hair -- with obnoxious and rancid stink. My meal or drink is being ruined because I'm struggling for air. Now as for me, sitting next to a smoker, I cause absolutely no difficulties. He or she probably won't even notice I exist. I'm not endangering the person in any way or covering the person with terrible smells and odors. That person gets a pleasant experience, but I don't. How is that fair? That person can go wherever he or she wants. As for me, if I don't like it, I have to go someplace else? How is that fair. You mention that the person who leaves the bar after 10 beers is a greater danger than the person who leaves the bar after 10 cigarettes. Where's the logic in that comparison? Driving drunk is a whole separate issue, which we're not talking about. But just to respond in some manner, if a person drives with 10 beers under his or her belt, there are LAWS against this sort of behavior. A law with serious fines and repercussions, so the issue of drunk driving has already been addressed. Back to the topic: we're talking about second-hand smoke. I'm tired (as well as New York and other states) of playing second fiddle to the smoking addict and his or her self-indulgent behavior. The amount of polite smokers I've known can be counted on two hands -- the most of y'all are rude and inconsiderate. It's time ALL of wisconsin went smoke-free.
