After running a successful club in Serbia for two-and-a-half years, brothers Nebi and Sini Torbica are primed to open The Moct (pronounced "Most") Bar, 240 E. Pittsburgh Ave., in the up-and-coming Fifth Ward (aka Walker's Point) district by the end of Summerfest.

"This will be something different that has not been seen in Milwaukee before," says Nebi, 30.

The unique space is inside an industrial warehouse and will feature a simple, modern design. The bar will have a wide array of global wines, a special summer drink menu, unique live music and DJs. It will also house a restaurant, called Café Fabrika.

Set to open in mid-July, Fabrika will dish up contemporary European meals with Serbian and coastal Adriatic flavors for weekend brunch, lunch, dinner and late-night appetizers.

"I really cannot tell you specific menu items as (café owner) Nick Lakic is working as we speak with his chef on menu items," says Nebi.

The Torbicas' other club, called Klub Sterija, is located in Novi Sad, Serbia, a city of 300,000 people. The brothers lived in Serbia for two years before moving to Milwaukee in 1982 and still have relatives there who help run the club.

"We have owned the bar about two years and it's still alive and kicking with live music almost every night and a very nice outside patio in the center of town," says Nebi.

Prior to Moct, Nebi owned a tavern on 57th and Oklahoma, called Dinastija. He also worked for the Department of Defense for three years as a contractor for the U.S. Army in Bosnia during peace-keeping operations.

Nebi is happy to be back in the bar business and hopes his new club will add a distinct Euro vibe to the Fifth Ward district.

"For this bar we anticipate and hope to cater to a crowd in their mid-to-upper 20s and everyone above that," he says. "But everyone is very much welcome."
