The votes are in and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best: Eat & Drink, 2007. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all month long in the Bars and Clubs section of OnMilwaukee.com.
Walker's Point is a small neighborhood but it's certainly seeing more than its fair share of development attention lately.
With all the new condos also come new restaurants and new bars like MOCT, V Bar and The Room, which is connected to Boom, 625 S. 2nd St. Some people have even given the area a new name -- The Fifth Ward -- which alludes to its ultra trendy neighborhood to the north, The Third Ward.
But before south of Downtown was the new place to be, The Social made its home there. A Walker's Point veteran, The Social first opened at 434 N. 2nd St. in 2000. In 2004 owner Kevin Sloane relocated it to the hot little intersection of 1st Street and Pittsburgh Avenue, next door to Alterra Coffee Roasters.
The current location is almost 3,000 sq. ft. -- twice the size of the old location -- and has tons of seating, a larger bar area and a private room for parties or large groups. With a warm, lively atmosphere, it remains a great place to get dinner and drinks before heading out for the night.
