"Bar Month" at OnMilwaukee.com is back for another round! The whole month of February, we're serving up intoxicatingly fun bars and club articles -- including guides, unique features, drink recipes and more. Grab a designated driver and dive in!
The votes are in and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best: Bars & Clubs, 2009. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all month long in the Bars and Clubs section of OnMilwaukee.com.
A year ago, Sobelman's Pub and Grill finished a close second to Murphy's Irish Pub in OnMilwaukee's balloting for Best Marquette Bar.
This year, the roles are reversed.
Sobelman's, located in a former Schlitz tavern building at 1900 W. St. Paul Ave., is renowned for its Black Angus burgers -- served on tasty buns with three cheeses, jalapenos and fried onions -- and its Bloody Marys.
Owners Dave and Melanie Sobelman, who have courted business from Marquette students and alums for nearly a decade, serve cold beer and good food in a clean, cozy environment.
Murphy's, which is located at 1615 W. Wells St., is located at the heart of Marquette's campus and is a more classic college bar. Our editors chose it because it embodies what a college bar should be. It's packed Thursday through Sunday and offers some of the best drink specials in town.
Editors' choice: Murphy's Irish Pub
Runners-up:
2.Murphy's Irish Pub
3.Caffrey's
4. Jim Hegarty's Pub
5.Miss Katie's Diner
6.The Harp Shamrock
7.Ambassador Hotel
8.Angelo's
9.Conway's
10.The Annex

Marquette may be the closest university to Soblemans, but in NO way is the valley bar a "Marquette" bar.. Sure, students frequent the bar and the soccer field is located down in the valley, but it is not near the "heart" of the campus or located anywhere near the central group of the traditional campus bars .. say 13th and State. Any resident, Marquette student or alum knows that! It shouldn't even be included in the nominees.

If Sobelman's is considered a Marquette bar, than I think any bar on/near North Ave would be a "UWM bar". RC's, Judges, Cans, Rascal's, BBC, Decibel, and Vituccis would probably be the top contestants. Yield and Vox are cool but not really college bars. If that's the case, UWM has much better bar choices than MU.

Sobelman's does have the best burger's in the Universe. What's that best UWM bar (NOT Axel's). Cans? Rascals? Judge's? Hooligan's?
