The Ale House books acts from Milwaukee and beyond. |

The votes are in and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best: Eat & Drink, 2007. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all month long in the Bars and Clubs section of OnMilwaukee.com.
On the face of it, Milwaukee Ale House might not seem like a live music venue. The stage is small and the room is filled with tables that appear better suited to dining than rocking out.
But ever since it opened a decade ago, the Ale House has not only supported local music by booking gigs to help introduce musicians to the happy hour crowd (as well as late night gigs, of course), it has also occasionally brought in national and international acts like Ireland's The Frames.
So, perhaps is makes perfect sense that OnMilwaukee.com readers voted it Milwaukee's best live music bar for 2007, allowing it to beat out more music-focused places like The Rave, Shank Hall and the Cactus Club.
OnMilwaukee.com editors' choice: Cactus Club
Runners-up:
2) The Rave
3) Shank Hall
4) Cactus Club
5) The Up and Under
6) The Estate
7) Points East Pub
8) The Mad Planet
9) Stonefly Brewing Co.
10) The Nomad World Pub
11) Linneman's
12) Vnuk's
13) Live
14) The Commons

umm...i'm sorry but doesn't the rave bring in some of the biggest acts around the country? the category's not "best live music bar for local acts." sure it's expensive, but every band goes there. PLUS cactus club, points east, jackalope lounj, shank hall, all bring in NATIONAL acts. Cactus club rox, and i've seen good shows at points east. if it]s a local contest...then sure...ale house wins i guess..if i would wanna see for instance the love monkeys, the toys, rocky mountain beaver pond, 5 card studs, and the acoustix...wait...y would i wanna go see them? i think i'd rather hit up buckhead and watch a band cover john mayer or OAR

I am surprised Peter Jest isnt' having a fit; his craphole Shankhall is not number one haha. HOB = overrated. The majority of the shows booked @ HOB in Chicago eventually play Milwaukee @ The Rave or Pabst, sometimes cheaper.

Milwaukee's live music scene sucks!. We need venue like the house of blues. I love that place. Sounds great!. All u hear of bad rock in milwaukee no good r&b, neo soul, real jazz, or hip hop. I will have to keep going to chicago for this!

When does Nomad have live music? I saw a band there once a while back. The band was supposed to play at the Redlight but they had an electrical problem and moved it to Nomad. The band was called Kiss Me, I'm Sick, I think. It was a Probers spinoff. I think it was after Locust Street Day. But this was the only time I remember live music at Nomad. Someone help clear this up for me.

Cactus club should win this category. No contest. For those not in the know, we host live music at Yield every Tuesday night - no cover charge.
