"Bar Month" at OnMilwaukee.com is back for another round! The whole month of February, we're serving up intoxicatingly fun bars and club articles -- including guides, unique features, drink recipes and more. Grab a designated driver and dive in!
The votes are in and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best: Bars & Clubs, 2009. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all month long in the Bars and Clubs section of OnMilwaukee.com.
Every year, two Irish bars duke it out to be the number one pick from the OnMilwaukee.com readers. This year, the top prize once again goes to the venerable County Clare, and its traditional foe, Paddy's Pub, finishes second.
County Clare, 1234 N. Astor St., is a small inn and serves some great authentic food, including Irish root soup, shepherd's pie, and a mean corned beef and cabbage. With a nook that is warmed by a toasty fireplace, couches and regular live music, County Clare is feels cozy but never cramped (except, of course, on St. Patrick's Day).
The OnMilwaukee.com editors are partial to the newcomer, Brocach, which opened in December 2007 at 1850 N. Water St. With a lovely décor, solid food and cold Guinness, it's hard to beat.
OnMilwaukee.com editors' choice: Brocach

The voters got it right this time... only b/c O'Donoghues on Bluemound is no longer.

Taylor & Dunn's Public House should be on this list. It's a shamockery that it isn't. Despite it being located in Mequon...which to me, is still "Milwaukee".

Brocach has excellent food and atmosphere. It's a close second to County Clare.

The Irish pub on Water and Eire continually gets underrated by the masses. Nice servers, good beer, wonderful game room.. and a blissful fish fry. Anyways, a lot of good ones on the list no doubt.
