The votes are in and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best: Eat & Drink, 2007. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all month long in the Bars and Clubs section of OnMilwaukee.com.
Scott Johnson and Leslie Montemurro just have the Milwaukee Midas touch, don't they? Everything those two touch turns to gold, and stays that way, even as newer places open up in booming areas of town.
Johnson and Montemurro were among the first to recognize Bay View's potential and the community has been thanking them with ample business at Palomino ever since it opened five years ago at 2491 S. Superior St.
Palomino's menu is geared toward the punk rock cowboy, especially the kind with a hearty appetite. But this isn't your typical bar fare -- it's a little kitschy, it's a little rock and roll and it serves some of the best deep fried (and vegan-friendly) food in town. Come hungry, but save room for a few drinks.

I prefer the editor's choice since the Palomino is moreso a restaurant.

This would be a tough category to select a "best of" winner, so I'm perfectly content with the Palomino taking top honors. I do love the place. It has a "come as you are" feel to it, nothing overly fancy, and a fun people-watching spot (if you're a honky, that is). Plus, throw in fairly reasonably priced eats and drinks, and it's hard to beat it. Oh, and the waitresses are all super sexy, with their pierced body parts, low neckline-wear that exposes their cleavage, tattoos everwhere, and rockabilly attitudes. Someone pinch me 'cause I'm in heaven!
