The $33 million mixed-use building at the southeast corner of North Water Street and East Juneau Avenue Downtown will soon house a new lunch and late night drunk eats stop, the area's fourth Qdoba Mexican Grill. A fifth location is in the works at 803 N. 16th St. on Marquette's campus.

As for the Downtown location, 1150 N. Water St., it's in a development that's helping to reshape Water Street. The 128-room Staybridge Suites extended-stay hotel also has 31 condominiums and 14,000 sq. ft. of retail space on the first floor. It also has two floors of parking.

The Qdoba is slated to open later this summer.

"We are looking to open the Water St. location on Monday, Aug. 25," said Lee Ann Yops, marketing director for the company.

The Marquette University location is expected to open Sept. 10.

I must say, I strongly agree with brewfan (Go Brewers, Go Qdoba!). But anyways, there really does seem to be missing a go-to afterbar place to grab some munchies besides those hot dog corner stands which are delicious but unavailable in the winter. There is a Qdoba by UWM which, from personal experience and from what I've heard from fellow students, is very popular among college students. Opening a location by Marquette is a great idea and on WAter street next to Bar Louis is outstanding. I for one am very excited for the grand opening. All you haters out there do not know what you are talking about and I have a feeling you are the type of people who like to complain about absolutely everything mainstream or anything that is popular among the greater public. The quality of food, service, and overall atmosphere at Qdoba is much MUCH higher than that of Chipotle. This is not just my personal opinion but also from a ton of other people that I've spoken with. Botton line-Qdoba is doing the right thing by opening a location on Water street. Food is great. Atmosphere of the restaurant is great. If you don't like it don't go but don't try to persuade others to not go--allow others to try it and make up thier own minds and PROVE YOU WRONG!!!!!!!!

Well what would you rather see go in that building? What is a better alternative? High end expensive food? I do believe downtown has plenty of those types of restaurants and I think Qdoba wisely decided to put there restaurant there. It will be a gold mine for drunk people and people who come down for a quick bite to eat then maybe get drinks. I think there thinking was right on. Not that Taco Bell or McDonalds are bad places...but would you rather have that late night crowd or a nicer fast casual restaurant (qdoba) and have that late night crowd? It is a little more expensive but I think that helps filter out some of the un-wanted places that fast food restaurants bring in. Not to mention, I don't get where the bland flavor comes from? What are you eating at Qdoba? Maybe you are confusing with chipotle...talk about a snore. Anyway, i say give it another try you might be happy that its going in there. And maybe one night you decide to let loose on water st a drunken excursion to Qdoba might just be your ticket to the perfect night cap.

"Low-rent Eastside apartment." Now there's an oxymoron for you if I ever heard one. But I guess that's to be expected from someone who chooses to live on the "fashionable" Eastside. Guess you couldn't find any vacancies in the Metcalfe Park neighborhood. Too bad because then you'd be so close to your favorite dining experiences (i.e., Burger King, KFC, Popeye's, McDonald's).

No, I think "food snob" doesn't quite capture your true essence. That would mean that you only whine about your food. I think "life snob" would be much more appropriate. Oh and yes, I do live in the Chateau....the name of my low-rent east side apartment building. Excuse me while I sit back, put my nose in the air, and think about how much I hate food from chain restaurants...... "Man, I am awesome, I love non-corporate food, tight jeans, and a single-gear bike" Oh wait, that's Z_Boy.

ChateauDweller: This coming from a person named "ChateauDweller." LOL! You bet I'm a food snob. I fully embrace the label. I don't run from it nor will I ever. Z Boy: Food snob! Yeah! So I guess what you're saying is that Taco Bell would be a good fit for this site, too (which, by the way, if you read my earlier post, I was all in favor of -- because I'm the food snob and all). Now run along little dweller of French vineyard estates, dweller of mansions ... you don't want your Fajita Ranchera Burrito to get cold. Those are best to eat right after your college fraternity guy squeezed it all together and shoved it into tinfoil for you.
