What is a blog? For us it is a short blurb that we write when the mood strikes us. It can be first person, funny or informative. In short, a blog is whatever we want it to be. Published June 18, 2009 at 10:22 a.m.

Father's Day is Sunday and while I, of course, think that my Dad is tops the day's got me thinking of who best represents Milwaukee as its top father figure.

Who is the one man we all look up to? Someone that's strong, influential and fun? Some that represents what it means to be a father to our fine city?

This isn't an easy list to compile, and the below names are off the top of my head. Here are just a few suggestions for men who could take the title of "Milwaukee's Father Figure."

Use the talkback feature to list your choices.

  • Tom Barrett, mayor
  • John Cary, MACC Fund executive director
  • David A. Clarke, Jr., Milwaukee County Sheriff
  • Michael Cudahy, entrepreneur
  • Mike Gousha, journalist
  • Gary Grunau, developer
  • Cory Hart, Brewers' outfielder
  • James T. Harris, talk show host
  • Howard Fuller, former head of MPS, education innovator
  • Carlos Santiago, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee chancellor
  • Joe Sims, Milwaukee Striders
  • Rev. Robert A. Wild, Marquette University president

Jeff: A SUPERB choice in John Cary. He calls himself "the father you don't need" but that's hardly the case. We can all use someone like him in our lives. We are truly blessed to know him, and have him fighting childhood cancer and blood disorders for the MACC Fund.

How in the heck did Mayor Barrett make this list? A good dad can help you solve your problems...Barrett is totally useless in that regard. I would suggest Will Allen of Growing Power - former pro athelete now leading the charge to encourage locally grown food production & mentoring kids as part of his work.

Cory Hart? Please explain that one. And he's not an infielder.

If you could choose, would you prefer December or March to stay warm and snowless in Milwaukee?
December. I'm not ready for winter yet.
March. By then, I need winter to be over.
There's no use complaining or hoping for better weather in Wisconsin.
Actually, I like snow.
