The votes are in and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best: Eat & Drink, 2007. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all month long in the Bars and Clubs section of OnMilwaukee.com.
With offices located in the heart of the North Avenue business district, it's probably no surprise that OnMilwaukee.com staffers are intimately acquainted with the bars in the area. Add in the fact that some of us are UWM grads and it's even less surprising.
So, we took this vote especially seriously, but weren't surprised to see Paddy's Pub, 2339 N. Murray Ave., duke it out with Hooligan's -- a race decided by just three votes -- for the top spot.
With its unique patio and homey interior, clean bathrooms, good vibes and rollicking music inside and outside, the Irish-themed Paddy's is a neighborhood favorite. Add in bowls of peanut M&Ms and you've got a recipe for success.
Hooligan's, of course, is a long-lived East Side institution, with great food, near-constant trivia games and a great selection of beers, all of which can be enjoyed outside (in season, of course), in the heart of the East Side.

I'm glad the Landmark Lanes at least made the Top 5. Yeah, it's not as cool looking as Paddy's or Vitucci's or The Eastsider or some of the others that made the list. It doesn't have the trendy vibe of Cush or Live on North either. But I'll be d*mned if whenever I leave the Landmark I haven't had a great time. I don't know what it is about the place: it's smelly as hell, the decor hasn't been changed for probably decades, there's no corner tap charm to it -- but I have always had just the best time after a night at the Landmark. Better than Paddy's, better than Hooligan's, better than BBC, better than Vitucci's. Yet I, too, never think to place it on a "best of" list. But through it all, the Landmark carries on. Congrats on your No. 5 ranking!
